(Laugh)! Ok I did just laugh when Poppo said "Let's never speak of our almost disobedience". I like that. If Velon doesn't know, I don't have to roll play him scolding everyone like children. That's not really fun for anyone. Time to get everyone healed up and get these battered bodies back to the control room.
Velon will absolutely insist on a long rest once safely there, and unlike any other time thus far, does not need anyone's input about it. I can't imagine anyone would argue now anyhow. Who could possibly even have enough hit dice left to get back to full HP, never mind a bit of magic being useful against a vampire, a dragon, and any other foes!
Back to the Critical Dice issue. Cinder brings up an issue I had not considered, that of the bad guys sometimes rolling a lot more dice than the PCs. A critical in that instance having the extra dice automatically maxed could be devastating. So if we are going to go with a fixed number, we should either just double the original roll, or fix it at the average of the dice.
And now I have to ask… Daishain, after those last 2 hits of Poljen's how close was the giantess to going down? Was she within reach if the critical die had been better than a 1? Hmm, no emoji of a tongue sticking out…
EDIT: Cinder, since we did not do a short rest before this, Poljen actually has 6 he can roll… but the 2 levels of exhaustion would give him pause!

I think the confusion in part lied with keeping track of more than one group, three in total, and how it was the the situation had improved or charged more recently.
That, and me not knowing exactly where everyone was. I also don't check the maps out as often as I should, in part because it's more difficult to interpret them when using my phone. It was also admittedly a spur-of-the-moment decision to have Zarra actually take action.
My apologizes for the part I played in the confusion.

Yes Paul, had you rolled better on that last [Critical Hit], there was a shot of her going down.
In any case, it looks like that'd do it. Lora's getting healing on the third round, just before she makes her final failed saving throw.
You know, I'm never going to get cred as a harsh Dungeon Master if no one manages to die
P.S. Paul, for the tongue sticking out emoji, just type a : followed by a P.

Thanks everyone for the attempted healing. Who knows what will happen with it. When a normal human collides with a Stome Leopard bad things happen. Lora caused her own doom. If she wouldn't have missed the giant when it was asleep her and Poljen would likely have been still standing. She missed two turns in a row on a naked giant with advantage. How do you miss striking a 20' giant that is asleep. That's a huge target *wink*.

A long rest would be a good thing, especially with two new members on hand to guard our exhausted characters. Control room would be the best place. And we can't toss the giants out the toilets, I think, not without effort. Maybe ritual Tenser's Disk? Anyways, lots of sleep and rechoosing spells for the upcoming battles, methinks.
