I confirmed that the egg was still viable via PM to Dai earlier today. He just said I have to be very careful in order for it to stay that way.

Aw, crap. I thought we were just making stuff up now so I was about to post that Velon pulls the flaming poisoning raging sword of doom out of her belly and mounts it like a bayonet on his heavy dwarven hammer.

Like Velon even needs to do more damage with his attacks? It makes Lawrance feel… inadequate. Ping! 12 points… Ping! 12 points… BOOM! 30-odd Fireball points.Meanwhile, in melee - Velong hits for 69 points, with an additional 30 points if the target twitches a finger. Per round. Rinse and repeat. "Whaddya mean it's still alive?!?" *snicker*.

It is notable that Velon can only pull off his big hit a few times, rather than every round, and that 30 fireball damage has the potential to deal hundreds of HP damage if multiple targets are on the field, while Velon doesn't have much on hand to deal with more than one target.

Likewise, it is notable that Lawrance has many more options than just dealing damage. DPS isn't a wizard's best role.

In any case, concerning the egg, yes I confirmed the egg was viable at the time Lawrance asked. But I will need a DC 20 survival or nature check to extract the egg as described without killing it. The thing is immature, and extremely delicate.

Don't worry, he fails his saves often enough such that he can't attack, thus his damage is probably average at best. Oh well, no one ever accused Velon of having the sharpest mind (Wisdom save) anyhow!

You can' blame people for being confused if such things are being done via PM. If I had honestly posted "Velon pulls the Holy Avenger from her belly" without explanation or a Dungeon Master post people would have questioned it, too.

Feel free to trade out Magic Missile, Scorching Ray, Rays of Scorching, Ice Lance, Lance of Ice, and all of those for Wall of Force any day if Lawrance is sad.

Ah, he'll just stick to AoE general group destruction to clear a path for Velon to super nova the BBEG. Swiss Army knife is a pretty good role for wizards *smile* No sour grapes, just funny how much different 5e is over prior versions.
As far as the Nature/Survival roll, he'll ask for help from someone who is better than he, and History/Help them instead. Editing post.

I wonder how our army of half dragons are now? We recovered hundreds of half- dragon eggs much earlier in the adventure. We sent them to several kingdoms to oversee them. I haven't thought about them in some time.

I still want a dragon. If we have a chance to not kill the next dragon let's try to force them into servitude. Lia would look very stylish riding a red dragon into battle *wink*

If Velon was wondering what to get Lia for her name day gift.... .

Yes indeed on the swiss army knife. Single target damage, in the vast majority of cases, would be a waste of a wizard's spells when they can do lots of other very powerful things including counterspell. That troll/Neronvain wrecking fireball alone was huge, in this case.

Yeah I only got into Dungeons & Dragons 2-3 years ago with 5e but have heard, such as from the guys on WebDM, that wizards were super OP in 3.5 and you barely needed the rest of the party at times.
