Yes, onthar means to move ahead along the road with all but the Blaze, with the intent of attracting the men of the northern camp to attack. He wants you guys to swing wide through the woods and hit them hard from behind right as the enemy becomes engaged.
Edit: Onwen's casting of mage armor works as intended.

Note: Survival at advantage due to Favored Enemy, and Natural Explorer grants:
- Difficult terrain doesn’t slow your group’s travel.
- Your group can’t become lost except by magical means
Not sure if that matters in this scenario, just thought I'd toss it out there in case it did since I'm playing an UA build.
I'm sorry. I was confused. Thanks for clearing it up. Geoffroy being mounted and the paladin commenting that we had the edge since the bandits were all on foot confused me. It made me assume we would be mounted.

Ah, I see. He was making note of the fact that their scouts all seems to be running around on the ground. They don't seem to have any other eyes like you do with Elanna. The advantage he spoke of lies in terms of being able to observe the field from above and make maneuvers based on that information.
As to Geoffroy staying with the caravan, you guys are free to do as you will, but Onthar was suggesting everyone in the Blaze doing this as a team. Those on the defensive with the caravan could use him, but I suspect so could his teammates.
