Worst Military 2016
Which, in your opinion, was the worst Military for the past year 2016?
Having served for 22 years in the US Army, I have to say that every military has it plusses and minuses. Having served in the units I served in I got to see quite a countries' militaries… or at least their armies. Also, military organizations can't even use their full power. Rating the best and worst is thus an exercise in futility.
Let me explain, the US military is the single strongest military in the world and yet an organization with a comparatively weak military has managed to survive years at war with it, even if it has been vastly weakened. So, does the fact that the US military has been hamstrung and not allowed to use its full power come into play here? Maybe.
Sure, Syria needed a lot of help to largely win its civil war. But a civil war is one of the hardest types of conflict to win. This is especially so when modern news organizations keep a country from using all of its power because of possible collateral damage to civilian. Let me say this, had there been a CNN during WW II we'd still be fighting WW II. There was a tremendous amount of collateral damage. To actually win a war one has to break an opponent's will. That is how we beat Germany and Japan. That is also how we beat the Confederacy in our Civil War and it took 3 1/2 years to win that war.
In closing, I'd say that most militaries are not living up to their full potential and they won't be allowed to until there is a conflagration large enough to put national survival of many countries at risk… God forbid. If that happens and militaries are unshackled we'll then be able to rate best and worst.
So which was the worst for you then?
Also if collateral damage isn't an issue wouldn't that mean that using cluster bombs or even a nuke would be easier?
Another really bad military is the Iraqi, they cannot do nothing without help.

Really all militaries are "Bad" and "Good" because they are fighting with their hands tied. The Iraqi military really isn't as bad as it's made out to be. The problem is the amount of support its enemies are getting from the local population and the environment in which it is fighting. MOUT is the toughest place to fight and their toughest battles have all been MOUT.
As far as cluster bombs and nukes… think about WW II. When went after the German and Japanese factories that built their war machines we loaded our bombers with a mixture of HE and incendiary bombs. This allowed the HE bombs to spread the incendiary effects of the fire bombs. It was quite effective and deadly. This was because our bombs were not very accurate and we knew if we started big enough fires we'd destroy our targets. The issue was that it also killed a heck of a lot of civilians. The thing is, our bombing is what helped to break the will of the civilian population.
Yes, horrible. As a soldier I can tell you war is horrible. Was is supposed to be horrible. That way we don't many of them. As a soldier I can tell you people in the military do not want war. When we make it antiseptic we end up having war after war until we get ourselves into a situation where we're going to have another huge war through miscalculations. I hope the time never comes again where we have a war like WW II. I pray we never forget what a war like that is like. But I fear we will forget and someone will do something stupid.
I suspect people have already forgotten. Too many glorify war, and too many have begun making the underlying mistake that led up to the world wars in the first place. Excessive nationalism at the expense of everything else. Edited: daishain on 22nd Jan, 2017 - 5:50pm
Daishan,
I fear you are correct in your assertion… and that scares the heck out of me. I mean, when one fights a war like WW I or WW II it's a war of national survival and with nuclear weapons that becomes problematic. I fear that my children won't see the same opportunities, won't have the security, and won't know the same generous country I grew up with.
