This reminds me of the Japanese but it is a culture that exists in other parts of the world as well. Still the Japanese take it to the extreme while others only do it based on revenge or as justice (Middle east).

In India ritual killings are very common and for the most stupid of things a father and brother(S) will beat up and kill one of their own women just because she talked with another man or dressed a certain way. While its supposed to be if the woman had sex out of marriage its way worst than that. I saw a documentary on this.

Religion takes some interesting twists and turns. On one hand they tell you to cherish and respect life but on the other hand they take life as though its meaningless just because it doesn't fit their ideology.
