I like this guy. He doesn't appear to be a political animal. The Democrat appointed justices in the bench he led seemed to agree with him and him with them fairly often, that speaks to his ability to compromise, and he was very well spoken during the hearings.
Neil Gorsuch takes oath at Supreme Court in first part of swearing-in process
Neil Gorsuch took his judicial oath at the Supreme Court as its 113th justice on Monday - but more importantly, as the ninth justice who will bring the court back to full strength after 14 months since Justice Antonin Scalia died. At 11 a.m. Eastern time at the White House, Gorsuch will take his constitutional oath as a federal employee from Justice Anthony Kennedy, the longest-serving current justice, who employed Gorsuch as a law clerk nearly a quarter-century ago. There probably will be a shift, but Roe vs Wade is here to stay.
Even if you are anti-abortion, that is a good thing. Abortions will happen whether they're legal or not, and bringing back the horrors involved in desperate mothers being unable to do it safely is not something anyone wants.
I doubt that Roe v. Wade will be overturned. I say that because there will be one or two Justices who are hesitant to overturn established precedent. That said, if a few of the older liberal justices decide to retire or get sick, then there could be a profound shift in the Supreme Court. This appointment keeps it at a 5-4 tilt towards the conservatives, although nobody knows for sure how Gorsuch will rule, but if President Trump gets another one or two then things change dramatically. If it ever came to a 7-2 court then established law could very easily be overturned. At that point, one or two of the hesitant Justices could actually vote no on overturning something and it still be overturned.
