Selvendar Introduction

Years ago while living in San Diego, CA, I joined a role playing website. I say "Years ago" but I know almost exactly when I was active on that website. It was 2001, shortly before The Fellowship of the Ring premiered in theaters. Prior to that event, I had been a tabletop Dungeons & Dragons player and dungeon master for many years. But people come and go, faces and places change and before you can finish casting that simple Magic Missile spell, you look around and realize that there's no one like you anywhere. Sometimes it takes years to establish the kinds of relationships necessary to have a successful tabletop role playing group.

So I find the perfect website. It's a shame that no matter how hard I search today, or how much thought I put to it, I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the website. I thought it was [..] or [..] but alas, neither of those (Or any of the others I have clicked on) even vaguely resemble the site I was seeking. Nevertheless, it was there that I eagerly awaited acceptance into my first Play by Post Dungeons & Dragons game. I'll never forget it. The Dungeon Master was named Oberon, or maybe it was Oberron, but I digress… the extra "R" didn't make him any less of an arrogant [..] But the man was so talented. I was accepted and dove right into it. The format sucked me in immediately and before I knew it, I was applying to be the Dungeon Master of my own campaign.

It was very exciting. I created a world called "Romnir" and by all accounts, everything about my creation has been lost to both the physical and digital world. But I'll never forget how watching Fellowship inspired me and my writing. I gave my players a world so magical, so breathtaking, and so doomed to fail. I poured all of my time and energy into Romnir, so much so that all I did was work, write, and sometimes sleep. I would spend more time IM'ing my players about Romnir than I would in the actual world itself. But none of it mattered. I tried to run things at such a frenetic and unforgettable pace that in the end, I ruined the one relationship that actually mattered the most to me.

Anyway, lesson learned and the sands of time help most wounds to scab over. In my current melancholy state, and after a myriad of different internet searches, I found myself here. I know not if I'm searching for something in the past or looking longingly towards the future. All I can tell you is that presently I am very much here. So show me what you've got….
