Army docks general one star after sex scandal

One of the Army's most promising generals will be demoted to one star and retired following a scandal that involved sex clubs in Seoul and Rome, high-priced booze and indiscretions with young female troops, the Army announced Thursday. Ron Lewis, who had been a three-star general and top aide to the Defense secretary, will also lose about $10,000 a year in pension payments due to the demotion. Ref. USAToday.

The Army is recommending that Brig. Gen. Ron Lewis keep his security clearance despite issuing him a scathing reprimand that questioned flaws in his character, his abuse of alcohol and the "Significant discredit" that he brought to the service, according to Defense officials and documents obtained by USA TODAY. Yeah, this is classic protect your own syndrome. He needs that clearance to get a good job. His actions prove he doesn't deserve it. More than that, they prove he is not trustworthy, so why would we as a nation keep him in a position of trust?

Ok I am not following something here. He was a three star general who was docked one star. That would make him a two star not a brigadier general which is a one star general. Either way he did something that was wrong and he should be docked. Two star dock is a bit excessive. I just hope the Army learns from this and cleans up some of their act.

I don't think a two star dock is excessive for this. He messed around with lower ranking women. Who knows if he used his rank to influence them. Furthermore, had he been an NCO the punishment would have been worse. I hate the way generals get away with things that NCOs get crucified for. An NCO may very well have gone to Leavenworth for this. Much like the NCOs who abused their position as drill instructors went to Leavenworth. This general used his rank and position the same way. [By The Way], I think the article meant to say he was reduced to one star, not reduced by one star.

Double standards! Any low ranking officer would of probably seen prison time and severely reprimanded. All these sex crazed cases are coming to the surface, the military needs to get their own under control.

I don't want it to seem like this happens everywhere, it doesn't. The vast majority of the people in the military of all ranks serve honorably. But like all large organizations, it is a cross cut of our society and there are bad people too. They are the minority. The fact that this is coming to light is proof that the military is trying to get its house in order. This is military investigators doing their due diligence and finding out that people in high places are doing wrong. The problem in my eyes is that NCOs, non-commissioned officers which means sergeants, would face stiffer penalties than this general officer did. That is wrong. This is where we need to do a better job.
