Richard & Grace Wheeler Murder Case (Hover)
Not good news for Tobago especially as they depend on tourism. Mr. Wheeler was a British citizen and thus this news is now going international: Source 8q
What is more horrific is the way they died - being chopped and Mrs. Wheeler's throat being slit. All this while the powers that be squabble over trivial matters pointing fingers at each other as to whose fault it is that this Banana Republic is so messed up.

Title: Serial Killers
Comments: Serial killers are not only based in Tobago. They infest Trinidad. However trying to get this message across to the police and those in the corridors of power is fruitless. All we get is lip service and a continuous parade of carefully manoeuvred statistics. Over the last decade only 10% of local murders in Trinidad have been solved. That leaves many killers on the loose here. The problem is that because this crime has now become more or less and everyday event in which many ORDINARY citizens are murdered it has become an acceptable fact, and nothing meaningful either by the police or our politicians been done about the situation. It is now obvious that not until politicians or people of status here become the target of the killers or the rate of murders increase to a regular figure of one or two per day that something significant will be done to curb the slaughter by those serial killers on the loose on this island. The police have very little chance of catching the killers in Tobago otherwise they would have already caught the killers of those murdered there in previous years. There is a major problem concerning the capability of our police force to deal with these murders effectively bearing in mind our small land area and population. There is an urgent need for a vast increase in its manpower to deal with the present situation regarding murders and other crime here. Giving finance to the police system here is not the immediate answer. They need immediate outside help and definitely more temporary manpower to get on top the present situation in order to regain full control of dealing with the galloping crime and murder rate. In comparison with the UK with a very large area, where the population is 62 million and the police there are quick on the mark to apprehend murderers, our police seem almost useless and non effective. We have to do something meaningful now, in order to safeguard the lives of our citizens by stopping the random slaughter that is regularly taking place here.

Title: Richard and Grace Wheeler
Comments: In the interest of accuracy please note that Grace Wheeler was a born and bred Trini who lived here most of her life. She was not a tourist, British or otherwise. Her husband Richard Wheeler was born in the UK but was also not a tourist. He lived and worked in the country for decades. The media jumped to a wrong conclusion and their reports have been inaccurate.

Thanks for the clarification Margarit. The media has been sharing a lot of mixed information about this case. And yet, I have to wonder what is the connection between all these cases? Because I strongly believe there is one.
Yes it is seriously disturbing to notice there IS an apparent pattern to killings over several years. Do we have a psychopath at large in Tobago? Are the police acknowledging a pattern? They are saying nothing like the new Ministers who are also silent.
I understand yesterday they arrested some people VERY well known to be thieves who have been a nuisance over many years. Well known for stealing - does that make them killers?
I understand the suspects were held after trying to use Wheeler's credit card. They led the Police to a field which they [the thieves] entered and reappeared with stolen goods. What I did NOT hear is that the Police searched the field themselves! So.... What's really going on?
I found it was weird that the police made these arrests to be honest. I thought it was perhaps a desperate act, after all too many of these killings are taking place in Tobago and no one seems to know what is really happening. I also wonder if this is a race crime?
