Combat Warfare: Mountain
Based on your experiences what for you was the tactical Combat Warfare: Mountain's rating, pros and cons environment advantages and disadvantages against the enemy?
In the mountains it is similar to urban warfare. You can have a multiple layered combat with fighting on all sides. Not knowing where the enemy is going to be is not easy and they usually will have the high ground and the advantage of being able to see you coming. If you have the high ground it will make some of the advances easier. Air power helps a lot but it can be hindered in the mountain regions.
KN has the right of this. This is another difficult terrain. This environment is very favorable to a defender. You can expect a defender to be well dug in and concealed. The defender is static, and thus not expending energy moving while the attacker is expending a tremendous amount of energy moving up to get to the attacker, all while being chewed up fire enemy fire coming from above.
This is another environment that requires overwhelming superiority, six to one or more. If the defender has had time to fortify this goes up tremendously. In WW II there was a place called Monte Cassino in Italy. The Germans were defending it and it was the highest point around. The Allies wanted it badly and attacked over and over again. They once sent hundreds of bombers to destroy the monastery the Germans as a fortification. They destroyed it but the Germans just hid in tunnels and came out and found the bombing had made it an even better fortification. They Germans had a regiment of paratroopers in the abbey. The allies attacked again and again and lost each time. One time they attacked with a full corps of soldiers, four divisions, which made it about a 25 - 1 ratio. It finally fell at that point, but was partially do to a landing in the German rear which made the position untenable.
