CHINA PROTESTS AGAIN TARGET JAPAN

As Japan's ambassador called on the Chinese government to take stronger measures to protect Japanese citizens in China, thousands of Chinese citizens took to the streets in another protest to call for a boycott of Japanese products and to shout anti-Japanese slogans.

According to FoxNews.com, the Japanese Foreign Minister has lodged a complaint and demanded an apology, not only for the anti-Japanese rally, but also for the vandalism that resulted from it.

QUOTE
The vandalism took place not only at the Japanese Embassy and the ambassador's official residence but also at (Japanese) companies and shops. I told him (Wang) that the vandalism is an extremely serious problem," Machimura told reporters.

Tokyo also asked for a formal apology, compensation for damages and assurances that Beijing would protect Japanese nationals and prevent a recurrence, he added.

Machimura said Wang replied that both sides should stay "calm" and not let the incident hurt ties.

Wang later told reporters that Beijing didn't support the violence.

I wonder how much this single incident will further hurt the relationship between two of the most powerful Asian countries.

Now this is taking it to the extreme, talk about having a grudge:

BEIJING (Reuters) - Japanese customers must apologize for their country's wartime occupation of China before getting a seat at a restaurant in former Manchuria or find another place to eat, Japan's Kyodo news agency said Tuesday. No Japanese had tried to enter the restaurant in the northeastern Chinese city of Jilin since it started the new apology policy and hung a sign that read "Japanese people barred from entry."

"We totally welcome those Japanese customers who can correctly view history," the manager, surnamed Tian, was quoted as saying.

We have a Thread about the Chinese Earthquake, but my emphasis here is not that, but the fact that China is willing to allow a military plane from Japan to land within it's borders. I guess disasters humbles everyone.

I think the talks did some good by the sounds of things. Now we just need to see if any changes are made. I would venture a guess that nothing changes once the Olympics are over.
