Steve King
How do you view the politics of Steve King and his rhetoric which is taken as being racist while others consider him as simply being patriotic / nationalist? Here is his latest infamous quote:
Steve King (Hover)
International Level: International Guru / Political Participation: 3231 100%
Reading the whole of what he said I don't necessarily take it as racist. I feel that he meant that if you take in people that aren't going to assimilate into your culture then it will destroy your culture. He was referring to the Muslims being allowed into Western Europe in great numbers. They aren't assimilating well and have a much higher birthrate than native Europeans. They will be the death of western culture in some of those countries eventually. That is true.
Between the anchor babies that are coming here to the US from Latinos and then if we bring in more people from the middle east we will be throwing away our culture as many of these people do refuse to be part of the US and keep their ties to the country they came from. We are a nation that was founded by immigration but most of our ancestors embraced being part of the USA and assimilated to our culture and wished to be great Americans.
This sounds very racist. What Steve King promotes is racist. Many misunderstand the term "Racist". Basically, if you decide something based on "Race" then you are "Racist". Steve King's argument is based on race so what is he?
International Level: Senior Politician / Political Participation: 177 17.7%
He did word it poorly. He is promoting bringing in people that will assimilate to our country. Germany has failed at this for example. Down the road Germany will most likely no longer be Germany. That culture will be no more. It has nothing to do with race. I don't care who comes here if they assimilate. The US is generally better at assimilating new immigrants. Western Europe has largely failed at this.
Kyrroeth,
I think Europe has failed at this because there is a single dominant ethnicity in each country there and the immigrants are immediately discernable. That makes it difficult to assimilate. Countries like the US, Australia, and Canada are different, and here in the US we are the most different I think, but I may be prejudiced in this. We have no single ethnicity. We are all the same in that we are all different. Can you pick out a Latino… maybe. Or maybe they are Italian, or Greek, or African American. Can you pick out an Arab, maybe. Or maybe they are Latino, or African American, or Portuguese. Is that guy German or Polish? In Germany you could tell, here not so much. Is that gal a mix of Korean and Irish or Chinese and French? Either way, you'd be hard put to find that mixture anywhere but here. It's one of the great things about the US, we have a little bit of everything and we are vastly stronger and better for it.
As far as Steve King is concerned, my father, uncle, and both aunts on my Paternal side and my mom and her 14 brothers and sisters were all "Some else's babies" once. All four of my grandparents came from wither Italy or Greece. My father and uncle and a few of my uncles on my mom's side fought in WW II. My dad earned the Navy Cross, which is just below the Medal of Honor. My uncle won the Silver Star. They all became good Americans which led to more generations of good Americans. I think that's enough said.

GOP Rep. Steve King says he regrets controversy over his white supremacy comments and joins lawmakers in condemning his own remarks. King said he would vote for a resolution of disapproval put forth by Rep. James Clyburn, the No. 3 House Democrat, which condemned the Iowa Republican’s comments in which he questioned whether phrases like “white supremacist” were offensive. “I regret that we are in this place," King said on the House floor. "I agree with every word that you have put in this.” Ref. USAToday.
