Man, 19, is wanted in rape of 12-year-old

Detectives say the case is disturbing not only because of the sexual assault but also because the man took the young girl to his prom and no one at the dance seemed bothered by it. Salt Lake City police detective Jeff Bedard said Friday he didn't have an explanation as to why not one student or teacher from the school where the prom was held contacted authorities.

I think her parents have some culpability here. Where were they when she was leaving for the prom? Why did they ever allow her to go out with someone so much older than her. For that matter, what were they doing allowing a 12 year old to go to a prom to begin with? Another reason why children should wait until they are 16 to date.
