Yes, it's quite possible this could help us achieve fusion power. It's also possible something like this could open up a black hole that swallows the planet too.

Well yeah you can have that too but I think that is much less of a possibility as fusion power can be. All we need is a strong enough magnetic field to contain the fusion reaction.
