Maxine Waters On Socializing Oil
Quite possibly the worst example of a politician catching themselves in a horrible comment and trying to correct it mid-stream, Congresswoman Maxine Waters was telling the President of Shell Oil that she wanted to 'socialize' big oil, when she apparently realized how bad it sounded. Then again, maybe she didn't, because her recovery statement didn't make her sound any less socialist.
Ref. Glenn Beck.
It is a bit of a combination of both.... She felt she had to say something (That is usually the start of a disaster) and didn't give it a lot of time before she blurted something out. Now on the other hand, there are some in the democratic party that believe the money you make for a living really shouldnt be yours… it is the government's of which they let you have a portion.
I love this Hillary comment from 2004:

I feel that nationalizing our oil will lead us down the wrong path. If we nationalize this who is going to stop the government from nationalizing anything else? We are americans need to make sure that any representative that feels this way is ousted from office.
She is emotional over the issue and so did not follow the rule of thumb:
Before engaging mouth please activate brain
However, with that said, I do believe that certain major industries should be either restricted, audited, fined or in somehow controlled by the people otherwise they (the private enterprises) will have the power to hold at ransom the citizens that allow them to earn a living off of their heads.
For instance electricity, water, gas and so forth should not become a profiteering scheme. The government should reserve power to ensure that these utilities are treated differently as compared to other private businesses.

I can see where your coming from Jb but if you have more than one company providing the service of electricity or gas or even water you can have cheaper rates by fair competition. I can not say for sure that it will happen but free enterprise should have a fair go at it.
True for some things, but not really practical for others. For instance how many companies can you have providing you electricity or water, realistically it can only be one.

This is true and if you do not like that source you can install a rain water collection system to use in your home. The grey water can be filtered to give you fresh water and you can have a storage tank big enough to last you a few days. Electric, and gas can be a toss up. You can get a propane tank and not use city gas you can buy and install solar or wind energy to get rid of city electric. Lots of ideas but your right sometimes few real choices
No one is going to do that KN, this is the modern age of mobiles, computers, the net and so on. You need electricity to survive almost. The big utility companies know this and can therefore be free to charge you anything and then say it is because of this or that.
Bringing back the Topic to oil, right now there is no need for all these high prices for oil because according to the Arabs, there is no demand. Therefore its one of those ransom things again, but there is a choice - electric car.
