Russian Ruble vs. US Dollar

international QUOTE (USAToday)
The ruble declined sharply against the dollar on Tuesday despite an aggressive intervention by Russia's central bank to hike interest rates. The currency fell to a new low of just over 70 against the dollar. The ruble has lost about half its value since the start of the year because of the collapse of oil prices and Western sanctions over Russia's actions in Ukraine.

If Russia gets desperate economically then they may start to get more aggressive. Their idea of moving away from the US dollar to their own currency is going to flop real fast at this pace. Maybe the oil price dive was also to destabilize Russia.
