Panera Bread agrees to sale to Krispy Kreme owner, will go private

The investment firm that controls the Krispy Kreme chain and coffee brands Keurig, Peet's and Caribou has reached an agreement to acquire Panera Bread and turn it into a private company. JAB is expanding its empire of coffee-related brands with the acquisition of publicly-traded Panera in a deal worth more than $7 billion. JAB gave few details about its plans for Panera, which has more than 2,000 locations and about $5 billion in annual sales. Ref. USAToday.

Wow, they are building quite an empire. By buying all these diverse food chains they are setting themselves up to sell multiple food items from their outlets. I just hope they don't mess up Panera if they do this. I like Panera and its food choices.

While Panera has some nice food choices I do not eat there much. I also do not eat krispy kreme donuts and I do not drink coffee there fore this move does not effect me much at all.

I love Panera Bread. For doughnuts, I'm more of a Dunkin' person than Krispy Kreme. I hope that this move doesn't change either very much, since I'm currently living in a smaller town with few establishments. Panera is my go-to, and I'm not sure what I'll do if they change the menu too much!
