Flights Overbooked

This is the power of the internet to let companies and big corporations know they can't just do whatever they want anytime they want:

international QUOTE
United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz apologized for the forcible removal of a paying passenger from one of its flights and called the episode "Truly horrific."

Munoz pledged a full review by April 30 "To fix what's broken so this never happens again."

"I want you to know that we take full responsibility and we will work to make it right," Munoz said in a statement on Tuesday. "I promise you we will do better."

It was his third attempt to quell growing outrage after a passenger was removed, bloodied and screaming, from a flight that was to take off from Chicago for Louisville, Kentucky. United wanted to give seats to commuting crew members.

In his first statement, Munoz apologized for "Having to re-accommodate these customers." In his second statement, he described the passenger as "Disruptive and belligerent."

This apology is not as potent because it was only done based on the public's outcry.

Agreed and then only on the third try. The funny thing is this CEO was voted best CEO communicator and received an award just last year. The way they treated this man was truly horrific and the fact it was to accommodate four of their own "Had to get somewhere" vice the doctor who had to be somewhere makes it more so.

If some people had such a hard time with it then why did no one stand up and say they would let the Doctor stay on and give up their seats? Sounds like people thinking only for themselves again. I think the airlines need to stop over booking flights. IF the flight is full stop selling tickets on it. This is a practice that has been going on for quite some time.

Yes, it is a bad practice but the airlines use it because people often miss flights. So, they overbook so they are full as often as possible. That said, how they handled this is just plain wrong. As far as getting up, I think many of them were actually in shock that this was even happening.

Yeah I think the public outcry of this will lash out at all airlines. I think it may change some of the rules and regulations that effect air carriers and what they can or can not do. I know there are a lot of phones ringing right now about this.

Yes, this my preferred airline when I travel and I already sent them my thoughts. It was horrendous treatment of a paying customer. I'm tempted to change to another airline and vote with my cash.

I agree. How do you forcibly remove a paying customer to have employees fly? That is some terrible public relations.
