The San Diego County Civil Service Commission has upheld the firing of a sheriff’s deputy who slapped a woman in a wheelchair at least twice without provocation, then pulled out his badge and threatened tourists from Arizona who tried to intervene. Ref. Source 1o.

David Rector's right to vote was taken from him after a brain injury left him disabled and unable to speak. Now, the San Diego man and former NPR producer, has asked a judge to restore his right to vote under a new state law that protects those with disabilities. Ref. Source 9a.
LA settles disabled housing lawsuit for $200M
Los Angeles will spend at least $200 million to make 4,000 housing units accessible to the disabled, settling a lawsuit filed by advocacy groups. The City Council yesterday unanimously approved a plan to spend at least $20 million a year for a decade Ref. Source 6v.
DMV crackdown on misuse of disabled plates
In the last three years, the Department of Motor Vehicles has conducted 270 enforcement operations targeting misuse of disabled placards and handed out about 2,000 citations. Many of those caught say the placard belongs to a spouse. Ref. Source 6p.
