Role-playing Using Real World Locations!

I think I'm good at this so let me continue. What about real world locations. Imagine playing in New York or Texas and being familiar with the terrain so the adventure is more meaningful than random places you can't relate to. I know most will say that's Gamma World or some other apocalyptic theme but it does not have to as Germany, Italy, France and the rest of Europe were all around in the medieval period *wink*.

So this I've done many times in kind of like an alt Earth setting. I've done an ancient Greece and a 1400s Japan setting in the past. Although I use a different setting for my Oriental Adventures, I'd still like to use Greece and large chunks of Europe for an ancient Greek setting I'd might like to run sometime in the future.

Could be quite interesting.

Ooh, one could do one heck of a maritime campaign in the Japanese island chain!

Yup, in ancient Greece too. They have as many islands in a smaller area and there is a LOT of literature to choose from… like Odysseus and the Odyssey.
