"We can look into a solution for that, and in the meantime we won't be able to build the big metal wind towers anyways, not without a supply of aluminum. The first thing we'd be able to manage would be a wood and canvas windmill of the same sort the locals use to grind flour. Larger, slower, and a lot easier for birds to spot"
I look at my friends, "As to the forest, I was already starting to think on that. I think we need to start growing fast growing trees, like poplars, on the outskirts of the forest now. These would be planted by man for man and thus we can leave the old growth forest and the resultant ecosystem alone. I mean, I have pictures of Fangorn, Treebeard, and Sarumen in my mind and I would take very unkindly to anything like that ever happening. So let us take steps now to prevent that from ever happening, now, or when we are no longer here." .
I look at Rachel, "Would you like to plan this with me? I think we'd make a fine duo. I mean after all, Jack had Jill, Barbie had Ken, Johnnie Cash had June Carter, and Beauty had her Beast." I wink at her after the last one.
"That is, all of this is with the Lord's permission." I look to Lord Douglas.

"Our flour here is using a water wheel to move the big stones. As I did not want any birds to get hit if I could help it. What is this big metal wind towers you speak off" He looks over to Lywenta. "Go and get my wife. Go down by the stream to the north of here and see how the workmen are doing on clearing the trees. Then see about the next load of stone for the new building" Lywenta nods and says "Your will my lord" and then departs. Turning back to you. If all goes well you should have your building in a couple days. I do want you to investigate this root issue with the trees. As a ranger and a druid you should be able to tell me if something is tunneling under there or if there is a natural cavern under us."
"The industrial level wind turbines of our time are aluminum towers that are over 300 feet tall including the span of the blades. They are indeed a threat to birds, though the last time I looked into the matter, simple buildings kill far more. Not that that is much of a comfort. Like I said though, I intend to find a solution before we try such a thing."
"I have to say, I wish I knew more about photovoltaic cells, solar power would be a great tool."
"But all that is for the future. I can get working on a simple water driven turbine to get us started. I'll need a supply of copper for wires, and a couple of pieces of magnesite to start making ferromagnets. Your people probably know magnesite as lodestones, and I'd just need to borrow a few small pieces. Once I get the first few magnets made, I can return the lodestones, with a few pieces of magnetic iron as interest."

The lord looks at Jason. :I know what a magnet is I do come from earth too in the 1980s. I know how to build a electromagnet with a nail and wire. We have some magnesium running around in the black smith shop if you need some. We just have not found a good use for it yet as we do not have any refrigerators to hang art on yet. Why build a turbine when a simple water wheel will work for now?"
"I never assumed you did not know, I just was unsure if you knew the old name for naturally magnetic material, and the stuff is rare enough that it might never have come up. I should also note I don't mean electromagnets, but semi-permanently aligned magnetic material, and far stronger than any refrigerator magnet"
"As to why, to begin with, even if we never expand the electrical network beyond my workshop, there are some tools I'd never be able to get working off of a simple water wheel."
"The other reason, to be frank, is I need practice. Discounting a handful of minor projects, I have never put what I know about electrical systems to use off of paper, and I am cut off from all reference material on the subject. If there's to be any hope of doing it on a large scale, I need to perfect it on a small one first."
Out of Character: If you did mean to say the shop has magnesium, you should know that is not the same thing as magnesite. The latter is a compound that contains the former, but the two materials have very different properties.

Out of Character: Yeah mistyped there and spell check did not see anything wrong with it as it was spelled correctly *smile* I meant magnetic stone. And yes the shop has a small amount of it like 4-5 pounds. Not a lot but a nice hand full.
I look at Lord Douglas hoping hoping for an answer to my earlier query. Then I look towards Rachel, "Shall we take the Lord up on his offer to check out what kills those trees?" I smile at her, "Why, it'll be like a date… a picnic."
