I'll go ahead and drink the beer, then head over to the magical lift. "Lets see what this place might have in store for us, shall we?"
Once down below, I'll take a look around, watching for signs of what might have been in the collapsed cavern, signs of construction, and anything else of interest.
Out of Character: in regards to personal inebriation ease, it requires a heck of a lot more than that do have an impact.

I find Jason's empty cup up above and say, "Oh, this is a damn no go." I look at Rachel, "We have a nonconformist here. Here we all are drinking and he is down there calculating. What are we going to do about this?" I say with a wink.
I laugh about this." Damn nonconformists." I take a big drink of my ale." I make a face." This isn't my drink of choice but it will have to do." I look back at Den." I would like to see Jason drunk. That would be very interesting. In his current situation he might find himself married when he wakes up." I giggle about this." Lets get him drunk Den." I grin at him.
Jason does not find anything of note when looking around the bottom. He does note that the tunnels are of worked stone and he can see tool marks on it when he gets up to the tunnels and in them. They are about 7 feet above the base of the pit. The pit has over five inches of water in it now.
Unaware of recent plotting, I take a close look at the stonework, trying to discern what I can of the age involved, along with a bit of the methods of their work, and any signs of artwork/script involved
Out of Character: No chance whatsoever of telling the difference between carved last week and 2 decades ago, but I think I'd have a good shot at discerning the difference between relatively recent and a century or more. Likewise looking to the precision of construction, is this just a tunnel carved out by whatever means, a hall with every angle measured to precision, or something in between?
And finally, if it is a construction rather than just a passage, the style of architecture usually is reflective of both the general psychology of its builders and the purpose of the building. A tomb for instance is generally understated and melancholy, even those of the fancier variety. Am I getting any kind of vibes in that regard? Let me know if you need other rolls.

As Jason is inspecting the tunnels he can not tell exactly how long it has been since the tunnels were carved into the bed rock but perhaps the bits of stone and dust can help him figure out if it has been recent. The stones he sees in the collapsed area look to be about the same age as the stone in the tunnels.
