Out of Character: : What IS the agreement for what we find in the tunnels, anyways? 600 gp and an item isn't so bad, IMO.

I hesitate, then shake my head, "You could help to make sure I don't flub anything, but I don't think we can notably decrease the time required. It might be worth experimenting with at some time, but I'd rather it be with something very minor."

Out of Character: To my knowledge there's no way to do what you describe. There's a Pathfinder feat that allows it, but that's PF.

She nods and stands up to head back to the library. As she goes she does turns back to you and says, "Like I told you I will claim one item soon. As far as the current task you are under you are doing a fine job. If anything comes up I will make sure you know."

Rejoining the group I'll say, "Okay then, I'm headed to Be's current abode. Grant, if you don't come along, meet me in the smithy afterwards, I need to get started on the monocle, and you should be able to help."

"Thomas, if you could get started on those reagents, I'd appreciate it. Rachel, Vickie, do you think you could check in with the younglings? Frankly, I suspect they're taking the death of their companion better than we are, but I'd rather be sure."

Going ahead and rolling UMD checks for the crafting process on the Artificer's Monocle (Magic Item Compendium if you wish to look it up), I get 3 tries to pass DC 21. Cost of crafting: 562.5 gp, 60 xp, 2 days.

Grant, could you make 3 UMD checks for Aid Another just in case? I'd be able to boost your UMD skill by 2 for each check with an infusion if you don't already have an enhancement bonus in there.

Out of Character: : UMD is 3 base plus 2 for infusion plus one time inspiration for each day. This is a two day build so I’m assuming twice.
