I lead Jason and Rachel to the stream and I bury my face in its cool, clear water. Ah, that is good. I use my hands to scoop some up and into my mouth. "Jason, let me know when you are good to go. I tell you, I'm tempted to go for a swim but I'm famished too." I scoop some more water and drink it out of my hands. "Do either of you want to swim or are you as hungry as me? And Rachel, you'll have fun this afternoon. I'm not trying to kill ya'll or turn you into super troops, just get a few of the basics in before we go on our quest… I never thought I'd actually say those words."
Out of Character: Is the river to the west of the stronghold deep enough to swim in? Is it too swift to do so safely?
I've got control of my breathing now, drinking some water helps. "I think I'll save the swim for after. For now, something high protein, but otherwise relatively light I think. I shovel down something heavy now, and it will just make this a miserable affair."

"Yup, I agree. I'm hungry too. Let's go grab a bite to eat and then we'll start round two. My thoughts are that the mornings and maybe an hour or two in the afternoon are mine for a week. We'll assess our progress at that point and see if we agree to take on Douglas' first quest or train for another week. The afternoons belong to you. Jason, you need time in the library and working on your skills. Rachel, you need to practice your skills too. I think you and I complement each other. We'll be tough in the wilderness, less so in an urban environment. We probably both still need time to acclimate and study. I'd like to get a better idea of what the surrounding area looks like. Ghost, you do what you do. What do ya'll think of that?"
"Actually, that sounds fine to me. I hope this first task of us doesn't prove to be too difficult. If this is like Dungeons & Dragons we should see our skills increase, and I'm interested in what that entails for each of us. I mean, in time Rachel will become a force to be reckoned with and near impossible to stop. I'm ready for that. I'll lay back, lob a few arrows, zap them with some lightning bolts or fireballs from the wands you prepare for us… and then we unleash Rachel and go take the spoils. Hell, soon enough we'll have our own castle" I smile at the thought of it. "I guess we'll have to call her Lady Rachel when that time comes." I laugh a bit at that… then I frown and look at Jason, "Then maybe you can start looking in earnest for a way to get us back to Earth."
Now that I've had a chance to rest a bit, my brain is getting engaged again. "It has been a while, but if I recall right, the first spell I can think of that might work, and I must stress the word might, is Plane Shift, I think it is sixth level. That means we would need to hit 11th level before I'll be able to emulate it. It requires a metal tuning fork forged of metal aligned with the plane you want to go to. As mentioned before, it is my hope that metal from earth will do the trick."
"We might be able to acquire funds and influence enough to hire the assistance of a trustworthy higher level mage before that, but I don't know if I would count on that possibility."
"But that's all for the future. How much in the way of funds do we have left now that the shopping is done? I can use some of the rest to scribe a few scrolls. Any particular requests? Cure Light Wounds and Color Spray might be good to have on hand that way."
That bit of exposition out of the way, I join the others for brunch, and then it is back out to continue the exercises.

Grinning at Den I reply. " That sounds wonderful. The afternoons should be sufficient to work on my newfound skills. I want to learn as much about everything before we head out. We will be in a real life Dungeons & Dragons game. Unlike a normal version we can't roll new characters after dying. Our skills will compliment each other Den. We will handle the wilderness and Jason can handle urban areas. ".
" I don't know about being a force to be reckoned with. Hopefully so down the road. I have Ghost for now to pick up my slack. Den, you will be Legolas. You might miss one shot a week. Jason will be our mad scientist. I'm excited to see what he can come up with. For requests I'll stick by the old standbys Fireball and Lightning Strike. The ones you mentioned would be great as well. " I enjoy my brunch and now refreshed I am ready for round 2.
