Out of Character: In the direction of the original tunnel entry, and going just far enough to be out of immediate sight from hobs coming from the other directions. Unless others have a better idea, I'm thinking to preempt any ambush attempts by moving to where we can ambush a flanking force sent to circle around our previous position.
I will continue my stance of walking somewhat sideways with crossbow at the ready. If we decide to leave torches nearby then will be fully ready for them. If not then once we get to a good distance I will go down on one knee and place the torch in the ground, if I can and steady my crossbow with my arm aiming a bit up from my position on the ground. My mace is nearby as well, in case it becomes a melee fight.
I shake my head at Jason." It wasn't your fault. We couldn't know that it wouldn't work again. Let's make them pay. Drive them out once and for all." I grip my shield and club tightly." The hackles on Ghost's neck stand up. A low rumble is heard from him. We walk down with the rest past the intersection and take up positions on the front line.
"Still, we have a narrow corridor to bottleneck with. From your maps, do you think there is a likely path for them to flank us? Are we being watched by other means?"
Head on a swivel, watching both the area left behind and the path ahead, bow ready.
"The way they came out.... It's like they knew Rachel was alone. These guys are either very lucky or they know what we're doing. I mean, if we'd been waiting at both doors, they wouldn't have been able to use those bows. I guess I'm thinking down here like a Dungeons & Dragons thing, but the fact that the stuff you guys picked up down here is pretty powerful is there a chance they picked up something to scry on us with?"
"That seems entirely possible, though I'd expect things to be a lot worse if they could see every move made. Perhaps it only offers glimpses, hints? That would fit a simple augury item."
"As to the connections, it looks like this path to our right connects back to the area we explored last time. If either of the two doors with the hobs does so as well, that's the most likely path for them to take. If it doesn't connect, they'll have to come through from straight ahead."
As time goes on, I sigh, "Welp, that's zero for two on my guessing their moves. As I see it, we can march back in there and deal with whatever they have waiting for us. Or we can leave them twiddling their thumbs and explore elsewhere first. Both carry risks, the latter would be especially bad if they are monitoring us somehow, and with the former they have a defensive advantage. What do you guys think?"
I think we should take them out, I stand back up after getting the torch. I put crossbow away and get my mace. "I'm ready for them this time. How do the rest of you feel?"
