Quietly introspective on the return journey, I wonder at the seeming absoluteness of the village's destruction and what motivation could be behind it. What kind of being would see families of innocents wiped out like that? What gain would it get from such destruction. Confronted by evidence of what true evil could be, I'm at a loss of understanding and empathy for once.
I was never good in situations like this, no matter how strongly it hit me personally, it was trying to relate such feelings so those the more directly affected. I was empathetic to the loss of the elven children, yet could think of no way to offer comfort or rephrase.
Not only that, but given how I was raised and the family I grew up in I was never one to provide physical comfort or embrace as it always felt awkward… especially towards those I was not directly related to. No, instead I found myself almost unable to look at the children and kept quiet on the way back.
If such comfort was requested, I would provide it, but it would be difficult for me to offer it myself without such permission or direct indication.
As a bard, I could perhaps offer some music to try to help lighten the mood, but I wouldn't know for sure what music or song to provide and again I would also go into not knowing what to say in such a situation. I could imagine myself simply making it worse if I tried.
This is the internal debate but I often go through, presenting my weaknesses socially.
While I empathize with the feelings being spread I'm watchful, especially when we head back across the area where we left the Bulettes. I encourage us to stop and check on the condition to see at least the hide is still good.
I am silent on the trip back to the stronghold. I will offer any comfort I can to the elf teens if they choose. I still keep my eyes and ears open for trouble.
Out of Character: Doing Spot, Search, Listen rolls x4 so to keep things moving along.
The morning of your second day back the messenger arrives back and reports to Jason. The lords words are clear. "Come back we will discuss what you have found and know that someone or something more dangerous is in this world. Causing destruction of this magnitude take a very powerful mage or conclave of mages.. Luckily we have a couple very strong mages ourselves here. See you soon stay safe."
Travis, is also a little more introspective on the journey back to the keep.
Still keeping a lookout on the way back, weary of another bulette attack.
"I will also have a look at the bulette's hide to see what condition its in," He says to Jonathon.
"Once, we're back I'm keen to check some of the herbs, and their effects, that I acquired from the elf teens," He adds.
I nod, "I'm glad he came to the same conclusion we did. That could have been awkward otherwise. Right then, lets push on."
We'll keep traveling, with Ping helping survey from the air now that it has returned.
