My take: easy way to deal with the abuse is just cut out the skill and spell slot investment options, erase them entirely.

That leaves it with the xp bonus, and a familiar that isn't quite as useful as a normal familiar in most respects thanks to it being immobile. Still pretty powerful for a single feat, but not nearly as OP as before.

The difference between the hours of the sunlight is about 3.5 hours. So once the first sun sets you will have about three and a half hours to find and set camp or head back if you can.

Where does the light come from that is reflecting off of the pool? Is it simply from our torch?
