From the entry for Factotum "Your caster level equals your level in this character class." But the spell levels he gets access to is very gradual. For example 2nd level at 5th, 3rd at 8th and so on. Plus a very limited number of spells.
His class specifically states that his caster level is equal to his factotun level, in spite of having a slower spell progression. He still won't be able to access spells and spell effects any faster, in order to make an item, one must be able to cast the spell associated with the item.

Let me do some more reading on this and get back to you on it. From everything I have read on this subject there is two schools of thought and both contradict each other. For now I will let him have it unless I find something to change my mind.
Bear this in mind, there is a feat out there that increases your CL by 4, (Up to your HD) If CL is the same as spell level, we're talking about a single feat that could turn a fifth level caster into a 9th.
In addition, there are several crafting feats that require a CL higher than 9. Even an epic level 30 wizard doesn't have 10th or higher level spells, no one does.
Jason, I like the dire wolf sigil idea. Ghost has been the protector from the beginning. Without him I'm not sure if we survive at the very beginning of this game. No one has really commented but I've heard no other ideas.

KN,
When using magic items, other than an action to retrieve them, is there any consideration required when swapping them in? For example, if I had two rings and wanted to wear one at a time, and swap the other in when appropriate. Is there attunement or anything like that required before the new ring could be used?
The reason I'm asking is to have multiple necklaces, broaches or other similar slot items that I'd pull out as needed, where needed. It seems to be the theme for a factotum to have multiple magic items, each task-oriented.
Unless the item mentions something specifically (The ring of sustenance being an example), there's no attunement period/limit.
But if you're talking about hotswapping stuff in the thick of things, I do believe it takes a minimum of three standard actions (Removal, retrieval, equip), and that's for something simple like a ring, let alone a more involved item like boots.

That's basically what I'm wondering. If we create/get a Belt of Hidden pockets and I swap broaches, etc. It'd be usually because we know what we are facing ahead of time. Multiple rounds to swap items isn't a big deal out of combat, but if magic doesn't have a 'warm up' time in his world, that'd be best.
