Georgia Democrat falls short of winning the state's sixth congressional district outright, reports say
Democrat Jon Ossoff dropped below the 50% threshold to win Georgia's sixth congressional district outright, CNN and The Associated Press reported. The race, considered as a main electoral battle between Democratic and Republican parties since President Trump took office, was widely touted as a rebuke to Trump's politics. Ossoff will now face Republican Karen Handel in a June 20 runoff in a district that has been solidly Republican for almost four decades. Ref. USAToday.
The Democrats spent a lot of money on this race and they came very close to winning against a crowded Republican field (There were 13 Republicans running which split that vote a lot). Had they won it would have been a huge upset. Now, after all the money they invested they have to win or it'll be black eye for them instead and it's going to be more difficult when they go head to head against only one Republican in a conservative part of Georgia.
