Attorney roughed up by Fresno deputy gets $250K

A 69-year-old attorney has settled a federal civil-rights lawsuit against the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office for $250,000 in a case that he says solidifies a person’s right to question authority. “They push people around all the time. Finally, someone stood up to them.” Ref. Source 8w.

There are times to question and times when you should not question. If you are calm and cooperative most officers will tell you what is happening and you will have no issues. If you are being stubborn and doing all you can to make it hard on the officer you will probably end up in hand cuffs and taken to jail. It has a lot to do about your attitude.

The other main factor is in the situation. If you are in a protest you should leave the area. If you are in a riot maybe you should go home. IF you are doing any questionable activity then you may be arrested or detained until the officers can sort it out. If you are caught in a situation listen to the officers. DO EXACTLY what they tell you and you will have very little issues. And never resist.

Attitude is a big factor. Ever seen COPS? The ones that comply always get treated nicely and sometimes just get a warning. The ones that don't listen or try to be dodgy end up just as Kntoran said.

Cooperation is key to staying safe. The side of the road during a traffic stop isn't the time to dispute anything. Settle it in court. The police officer has heightened adrenaline and lethal weapon at hand. They want to go home to their family. You might be right and end up shot.
You never know what kind of police officer you might be dealing with or the kind of day they have had. With all that being said, I'm not advocating police abuse of power of any sort.

The media makes it as though police are bullying people all the time but I'll bet if anyone did the statistics they would see 1000s of peaceful arrests or pull overs vs maybe one or two bad ones.
