5 dead in home fire in western Tennessee

I wonder what was the cause of such terrible fire?

Three Gatlinburg-area resorts appear to have been destroyed by wildfires in the popular tourist area in eastern Tennessee, a state emergency management spokesman said.

The resorts are the Ober Gatlinburg amusement park and ski area, the Black Bear Falls log-cabin rental resort, and the Westgate Mountain Resort & Spa, the spokesman said, citing initial reports from Sevier County emergency management officials.

At least four people have been injured in the wildfires, which have been spurred by strong winds and the Southeast's worst drought in nearly a decade.

The fires have forced evacuations from downtown Gatlinburg -- a city of about 4,000 residents but a vacation attraction for many more -- as well as the town of Pigeon Forge and nearby communities. Ref. CNN.

The wildfires in Tennessee is the worst. There have been over a thousand people evacuated and in a shelter. From what I understand about it there has been a long standing drought there that has added to it.

Some news outlets are saying that this was caused by humans and not natural. Terrible that this was all preventable. At the same time I think people need to do more to keep less trees around their property and perhaps have a concrete walk in areas that they know are prone to fires.

Two teens have been charged with aggravated arson in the wildfires that ravaged Gatlinburg, Tenn., leaving 14 dead

Authorities have made two arrests in last week's wildfires in and around Gatlinburg, Tenn., the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations announced Wednesday. The fires killed 14 people, injured nearly 150 others and destroyed more than 1,700 homes and businesses. Ref. USAToday.

That was quick. Very good police work or someone had a clue about it from before and turned them in. How will two teenagers or their parents pay back for that kind of damage, they can't.
