Korean K2 Black Panther Main Battle Tanks
Based on your experiences what for you was the Korean K2 Black Panther Main Battle Tanks's rating, pros and cons?
I've been meaning to answer this one for quite some time. The K2 is a top of the line Main Battle Tanks (MBT). It has all the bells and whistles, Chobham armor, a 120MM gun, 1,500 HP engine, etc. This makes it a nimble machine. Many people don't realize this, but this 55 ton monster, and all MBTs for the most part, can turn on a dime by using their treads to steer. They can stop one side while having the other side turn and just spin round and round. Also, with that HP to weight ratio it is nimble in open terrain too. This is quite a machine.
The thing about this MBT though is that it is three generations better than most North Korean MBTs, many of which are holdovers from the 1950s and early 1960s. Now, people from then happen to be aged like fine wine… but tanks from then are old an antiquated. This MBT could easily take on five or more NK MBTs and win the fight. The guns on the NK MBTs are not able to penetrate the frontal armor of the K2 and they'd have to hit it from the side or rear. The problem is, with the computer on board the K2 nearly every shot it takes will be a hit and it's gun will tear through the NK MBTs. Most of the NK MBTs don't even have a computer onboard.
This vehicle give South Korea an even greater advantage than it had prior to its development. When you add in our M1s on the peninsula you can see NK has very little chance in a conventional ground war.
