$1 Million Dollars Bank Robbery
I always thought it was so odd for criminals to rob in a tiny island like Trinidad where if you are a bit good at your job as a police officer you can find them in no time....but doesn't seem to be the case:
QUOTE In a daring robbery yesterday three men threw pepper sauce in the faces of two security guards then stole their guns and three bags stuffed with more than $.1 million that they were about to take to a bank.
The suspects, who police said carefully planned the robbery and escape, pulled off the heist around 5 p.m. Outside the Lower High Street branch of Republic Bank, in San Fernando.
Dozens of people witnessed the incident, and a police patrol was a street away, but up to late last night, the robbers were at large.
The men were reported to have thrown what was later identified as pepper sauce in the eyes of the guards and when they began screaming, they were disarmed and robbed.
Police were told that three men wearing three-quarter length pants and t-shirts pulled up outside the bank in a silver coloured B-15 Sentra. They stepped into the bank's ATM enclosure, a tinted cubicle that allows customers to see the layout of most of the bank.
The men were said to have stayed in the ATM until two guards, officers of the Sentinel Security Company, left the bank and went to their vehicle to get the money and cheques.
The bank closes at 2 p.m., but there is a department called the Central Processing Centre that is staffed, where late deposits coming from businesses in and around San Fernando, are made.
The security company's van was impounded at the police station last night...
