Officer who fatally shot Terence Crutcher is charged with 1st-degree manslaughter
Prosecutors in Tulsa, Oklahoma, filed first-degree manslaughter charges against the white police officer who fatally shot an unarmed black man on Sept. 16. The charges were filed Thursday against officer Betty Shelby, who shot and killed 40-year-old Terence Crutcher after his SUV stalled on the road. Dashcam and aerial footage of the shooting showed Crutcher walking away from Shelby with his arms in the air. The case has been added to the list of police-involved shootings that raise questions about relations between law enforcement in the United States and black men. Ref. USAToday.

Betty Shelby, the Tulsa police officer who fatally shot an unarmed black man last year, was found not guilty of first-degree manslaughter. In September 2016, Shelby shot Terrence Crutcher next to his broken-down SUV on an Oklahoma road. Police said Crutcher failed to obey commands, and Shelby testified that she thought Crutcher was reaching for something in his SUV. Ref. CNN.
