The B 17 and B 24 were the mainstays of the American bombing attacks on Germany in WW 2. We would literally send over hundreds of B24s at a time and it could carry up to 8,000 lbs of bombs, although it was usually loaded with ten 500 lbs bombs so it would have a longer range. It could take an incredible amount of damage and it had multiple .50 M2 machinegun positions to defend itself. All in all, it was a great plane for its time.
The most memorable thing about it was the front glass so you could see the target coming up and drop it on the enemies below. It would be cool if they continued to do that even though they have computers now.
