A couple years I was going through music suggestions on YouTube related to Abney Park and one of them was called The Dolls of New Albion, A Steampunk Opera. If you like plays with a good story and interesting music, it is definitely something you might want to check out. So far there are only workshop productions of the play, but it is something that is so rich and descriptive that it really draws you in just listening to the music and its incorporated sound effects. A Steampunk Opera is written by Paul Shapera and is set in the steampunk society of New Albion over several generations. The first song past the overture sets the scene for the play:
This concept seems really interesting! I've always been a fan of the opera genre, but have had a hard time relating to the storylines. This seems like it could offer a cool and unexpected twist to the genre! I'd like to see more intermingling of opera styles with these sorts of genres. Maybe a fantasy opera featuring elves and ogres! The premise is exciting!
I am personally a huge fan of Albion series, especially The Dolls of New Albion, and have always enjoyed the creative storytelling that plays into albums.
The quote above has actually lend me to consider it being an interesting idea for a city in one of my campaigns for Dungeons & Dragons or Pathfinder, though even without such I have listened through them albums a couple of times. Especially the one mentioned above.
