Why the marijuana and tobacco policy camps are on very different paths. New research looked at diverging trajectories of cannabis and tobacco policies in the US and attempts to explain some of the reasoning behind the different paths, while discussing possible implications. Source 7h.
Okay, this deserves a response. Now, I admit I'm at best only partially educated on this but I'll start the conversation and let my favorite community correct me if I'm wrong.
First, the cigarette industry introduced very harmful chemicals into cigarettes. I smike the occasional cigar… with a friend who is a doctor. He says it's not the tobacco in cigarettes that's bad, it's all the other crap they introduce to make it tasty and addictive. So the cigarette companies set themselves on this trajectory long ago with their selfish and dangerous practices.
Now, I would venture to say the marijuana industry could go down that path, but they haven't yet. So, as long as they stay away from the mistakes the cigarette companies made, I think they'll be in pretty good shape and stay on their trajectory.
Yes long ago well not hat long back in the founding days of this nation when we first traded with the native americans some of that trade was tobacco and it was good for those who wished to smoke it but it was not addictive. Same goes for the marijuana it has not changed much since the days of trading and it was a powerful drug back then as still is now. How the tobacco company came to the conclusion to add addictive and dangerous chemicals into the cigars and cigarettes I do not know but it was a mistake that they are paying for now. I hope that we get rid of those chemicals because it has proven very bad to the consumers.
KN,
The cigar companies, the real one like Arturo Fuentes, do not add chemicals or addictive drugs in cigars. That is only cigarette companies. I actually took a vacation with some Army buds to Honduras and watched the cigar making process from planting, through harvesting, hanging, drying, culling, selecting, and rolling. We even watched them make the boxes they come in… and those boxes are hand made. It was eye opening.
Yes some cigar companies do not add anything to their cigars but many do. They do it during the drying period as the smoke the leaves with chemicals. Many companies will give you tour of their facilities but will make sure you do not see the chemicals being added to the leaves.
Cigarette smokers are 10 times more likely to be daily marijuana users. Daily marijuana use has been on the rise over the past decade. Now, a new study found that cigarette smokers are 10 times more likely to use marijuana on a daily basis. Marijuana use occurred nearly exclusively among current cigarette smokers, daily or non-daily smokers, compared with former smokers and those who have never smoked. However, even among non-smokers, daily marijuana use is increasing, particularly among youth and female cigarette smokers. Source 1i.
