I found this to be interesting but I would want to see further research. It sounds like it could be a more natural way to treat depression. However, the article also talks about the side effects of increased appetite and weight gain. In some people these side effects could actually increase depression.

By developing a new approach to imaging and manipulating particular groups of neurons in the mouse brain, scientists have identified a pathway by which neurons that drive hunger influence distant neurons involved in the decision of whether or not to react to food-related cues.
