Animal Love

Do you think its really possible for animals to love us the same way we feel love? For instance my dog is he really happy to see me because I provide the food or does he really love me?

I don't know if it's the same kind of love but I'm sure it's more than just food. The continual need to be close is more than because of feeding and I think more than a pack mentality too.

My cat is always happy to see me, after I have been at work all day. And she shows this as she rubs around my legs and then sits on my lap. She likes to be near me and my son, even if she is not on us, just likes to be close by. So yes, I see this as love.

The only good arguments against advanced mammals being capable of feelings like love I have ever heard can just as easily be applied to humans. I have come to the conclusion that either yes, they are capable of love, or love does not exist at all in any known creature.

As my cat Luke jumps up on my chest and flops down, trusting me to catch and cradle him, I'm pretty sure I know which.
