It will be interesting to see how this pans out. I am all for cutting trans fats out of my diet. But should the government be the one to police this for me? I doubt it. I appreciate that the government polices publicly consumed foods to protect the public health. But this is about choice. If a person chooses to put something in their mouth that could be unhealthy if consumed in mass quantities is a lot different than eating something you expect to be safe but instead is contaminated with e coli. There are some things that the government should stay out of and this is one of them. What's next? Are they going to legislate how many calories I can consume on a daily basis?

Banned Trans-fats

I think it is a good thing to get rid of the trans fats in some of the foods we eat. I can understand what you mean about big brother getting into things that he should not get into. I have the belief that some items may need to have big brother step in because the corporations were not stepping up to remove this by themselves. That alone shows that many are in business just for the dollar no matter what. Even if it harms humans. Granted many people make their own choice to over indulge in stuff that is bad for them. I think some do not have the will power to stop and this may help more than it hurts.

Banned Trans-fats

I have cut trans fats big time but I think empty starch intake is a bigger issue today then trans fat. So why not put more monies into educating the population on that instead of wasting the money on making laws that dictate how we must live in our diet.

I would have thought they would also ban other artificial 'killers' colorants, sugars, chemicals, anything used in junk foods and while they are at it why don't they start banning anything that makes you laze around while putting on pounds. They worry over possible cancer from one item and then become huge with fat bulges, tumors and heart bypass surgery from simply eating too much.

Perhpas this is just one of the more major factors in the fight for better health that they can control so chose to do so. Once that is done then maybe they will look at the next biggest contributing factor.

Could this also be an outright attack on the fast food industry?

I have almost stopped going to fast food restaurants all together. I was in a fast food restaurant last week just to give my child who works there some money. The last time I ate at a fast food restaurant was back in the early part of July. I do not want any transfat in my diet if I can help it. I figure getting rid of eating at fast food restaurants was one of the easiest ways.

I am not sure if I want them to go after other fat causing foods. If the government does then I would have to agree with Alskann in the government would be trying to control too much.
