Do you have SARS? What is it? Is it just exaggerated? Read on:

No, it is not exagerrated. Not when you are in the locality of the outbreaks. SARS is competing for front page real estate in the local dailies.
It is mainly the unknown cause or route of transmission that is scary. It is the mystery factor. It is 'assumed' to be airborne transmission so face masks have been selling like hotcakes.
The other factor is the speed at which new cases pop up. And of course, the number of deaths is very high within such a short period of time. Also. it is complicated by the fact that the world is so small now and everyday so many people fly in fly out from one place to the next. The infected people do not know they have it until they have travelled halfway across the globe. And then, another epicenter of outbreaks is created.
Still no known cure and still do not know what to do if someone is suspected to come down with SARS. Only thing the govts can do is to contain it by quarantine.

Remember the days in the US when they were paranoid about white dust in their mail? Well now everytime someone coughs they are going to run!
From CNN:
-- President Bush issues executive order allowing quarantine of SARS, other infectious patients.

Yes, I was wondering why we don't hear so much that SARS maybe is a terrorist attack. Don't you find it strange? Just because it didn't start in the US it doesn't mean that it was planned with other purposes. What do you all think?

JB, it is true. We really have to watch ourselves over here. The other day a visitor came by the office to see one of the colleagues. He was from Singapore, our neighbor nation. And there have already been 5 deaths there and numerous other suspected cases. Everyone was kinda scared and also wwas about to bolt at the first sign of cough or sneeze from the visitor. It's kind of comical really but very seriously taken.
