One would expect a species that nests on the ground and has the camouflage to do so to be able to determine where best to build their nests. I mean, either they do or they cease to be as a species since predators would have their way with them, eventually hunting them into extinction.
Most bird and other animals have a kind of tree, bush or type of grass that they prefer and their natural camouflage has developed from this and thus they still look for those trees, bushes or grasses to make thie nests and hide from predators.
