Yeah, this is just plain old chauvinism and it is as wrong now as it was 20 years ago, 50 years ago, or 250 years. Typically you'll find that the men doing this are either weak, unsure of themselves or their masculinity, and/or have been bullied in their lives and are now using their position to get even. So, they use their power as a means to assuage those feelings.
