Title: Homeschooling Guyana
Comments: I live in Guyana but frequently visit my home country of Trinidad and Tobago. Home schooling is legal there and on observing the benefits I decided to home school my children.I was told that I Guyana preschool is not compulsory but primary and secondary is. The social workers started calling my husband and telling him that my first child was now eligible for primary school, they would put us in court, take the kids, call the newspapers etc if we refused to comply. On one of their most serious visits, just before a planned vacation in Trinidad, my husband agreed to give them 10,000 Guyanese dollars to leave us in peace as I was leaving the country several days later. However, they reiterated that on my return they will.be checking, my kids must be enrolled in school. I am due to return in a couple months, but wants more than ever to be allowed to homeschool my children in peace. Such is the present position on homeschooling in Guyana.
