From Punk Rock To Special Forces

You might look at someone and judge that they are no good for any more than what you see them as being but this story will show you that someone can go from guitarist to special forces with the right focus and determination.

He made interesting connections to get there but one thing stood out to me was his self motivation even in learning to play the guitar. With that kind of outlook on things he could have done anything he wanted. Nice Taliban beard by the way. *laugh*.

Nearly everyone I served with has a similar outlook on life. When I was in basic training, which was the hardest thing I did in my life up to that point, we did some tough stuff. One day I was listening to everyone griping around me and I decided right there that would never be me. So, I said to myself, millions of people have gone through basic training and I'm as good as any and better than most. Now, that may sound conceited, but it helped me finish basic as one of the leaders in my training company. Being just a little conceited isn't a bad thing, as long as you think it to yourself, use it to help you succeed, and don't rub anyone's face in it.

I took that with me in all that I did in the Army, some of it much harder than basic training. And there was one other thing I learned while I was in the Army. If you don't try you definitely won't succeed. You will fail at 100% of the things you don't even attempt. I put in for some pretty hardcore training, some pretty high speed units, and some pretty hairy missions, and I had people tell me, you'll never get that. Well, I was 100% sure I wouldn't get it if I didn't at least try. And the thing is, enough people thought that same thing and they didn't put in for these things so they picked me time after time… even though I'm sure there were people at least as well qualified as me.

This is the type of thinking that brought us to the moon. This is the type of thinking that invented the internet. This will be the type of thinking that will conquer a new world one day.
