An FBI translator with a top-secret security clearance traveled to Syria in 2014 and married a key ISIS operative she had been assigned to investigate, CNN has learned.
The rogue employee, Daniela Greene, lied to the FBI about where she was going and warned her new husband he was under investigation, according to federal court records.
Greene's saga, which has never been publicized, exposes an embarrassing breach of national security at the FBI -- an agency that has made it its mission to root out ISIS sympathizers across the country. Ref. CNN.
Ouch, this is a black eye for the FBI and for us in general. This is someone who had to undergo a lot of screening to her clearance. I wonder what other information she took with her when she went to Syria. She could easily have compromised hundreds of investigations and possibly put informants' lives at risk.
Might as well go with the premise that many of our operatives in that are are somewhat compromised. She can have a list of names or addresses that would spell a lot of trouble for our spies there. All it takes is one person like this to put a lot of people in serious danger.
KN,
Yeah, I worked around them once or twice. Not with them though. But I fear for both the CONUS and OCONUS sources that the FBI have. They are all at risk now. Some poor guy or gal in Detroit who has been doing the right thing for the right reason is gonna go to Mosque and get a pipe to the head. Then they'll make it look like a hate crime.
