Hawaii Missiles

What kind of missiles are used in Hawaii for offensive or defensive purposes? Does Hawaii manufacture these missiles? If not, where are they allocated from? Does Hawaii's local military have missiles capable of intercontinental travel?

I have no idea what kind of missiles Hawaii has but considering its strategic position between east and west they should have a heap load of missiles to both strike and defend the mainlands.

Hawaii officials say missile alert was a mistake. A push alert that warned of an incoming ballistic missile to Hawaii and sent residents into a full-blown panic Saturday was a mistake, state emergency officials said. Source 4y.

Missiles Hawaii

There should never be a mistaken alert like this on any people. Knowing how fragile the peace is with North Korea I can see this causing harm to some people as others panic.

Was it a mistake though? This is too fishy, plus what happens when its for real next time, people might not take it seriously because of what happened today.

Hawaii Missiles

Simple mistake caused meltdown. A HORRIBLE error by one government employee sent Hawaii into a panic, as residents thought they were about to die. Source 9b.

I think more steps need to be done to ensure that a person can not "Accidentally" press this button during a routine day. Maybe have a cover over it so it has to be flipped up intentionally in order to press this button. That would end these types of mistakes.

Yes this is appalling simply from a technology perspective alone, never mind the resulting panic it can cause, etc. No one should be able to trigger such things by accident during a 'shift change' or whatever it was that I heard on the news. It should take two people and a password each, or something else of the sort that cannot possibly be done unintentionally or, ideally, not by one disgruntled government worker without the approval and aid of another. Mechanical means as KN mentioned are also far better than "Oops clicked the wrong button when punching in for my shift"! Wow!

We've all seen movies where the government or lab folks have to turn to separate keys simultaneously, enter multiple keycards, etc. And those movies can be 20+ years old! I know this isn't to launch the nukes as in some of those movies, but it's still a serious button to push in any regard and hopefully one you never actually do have to push.
