Why wouldn't there be violent Buddhists? Humans can find a way to screw up nearly anything, especially religion. I mean, Christ preached peace and turning the other cheek and Christianity is the religion of the Crusades and the 30 years war. People will find a way to twist anything to gain power so the wolves can lead the sheep.
