$160B is the damage estimate for Harvey, expected to be the costliest natural disaster in U.S. History. That's equal to the combined total of Katrina and Sandy. Hurricane Harvey could be the costliest natural disaster in U.S. History with a potential price tag of $160 billion, according to a preliminary estimate from private weather firm AccuWeather. This is equal to the combined cost of storms Katrina and Sandy, and represents a 0.8% economic hit to the gross national product, AccuWeather said. Ref. USAToday.
With this storm sitting in one place for so long and the fact that it was able to keep tropical storm status even by the time it went back to sea showed that it was going to be a devastating storm. The US is not out of the woods with this storm and any other damage it can cause as it travels up the Mississippi river states.
