First, there won't be any impeachment because there is no reason to impeach President Trump. Second, if there is a reason, if they find out he did collude with the Russians, then they damn well better impeach him. Third, if he deserves impeachment there won't be a civil war. I may not be as optimistic as I was once regarding the US, but I have enough faith that if he commits an impeachable offense then the country will get behind it.
Roger Stone's finances examined by special counsel. Special counsel Robert Mueller's team has been probing Roger Stone's finances as it summons a series of witnesses to gather more information about one of President Donald Trump's longtime advisers, according to people familiar with the situation.
Mueller's team has questioned associates about Stone's finances, including his tax returns.
The interest in Stone's finances could be tied to Mueller's charge of investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election and potential collusion, though another possibility is Mueller is pursuing something unrelated that turned up in the course of the investigation. Ref. CNN.
Roger Stone indicted on charges brought by special counsel. Roger Stone has been indicted by a grand jury on charges brought by special counsel Robert Mueller, who alleges that the longtime Donald Trump associate sought stolen emails from WikiLeaks that could damage Trump's opponents at the direction of "A senior Trump Campaign official."
The indictment's wording does not say who on the campaign knew about Stone's quest, but makes clear it was multiple people. This is the first time prosecutors have alleged they know of additional people close to the President who worked with Stone as he sought out WikiLeaksfounder Julian Assange. Ref. CNN.
All four prosecutors withdraw from Roger Stone's case as DOJ backtracks on their recommendation for a stiff prison sentence. Prosecutors said Monday the ally of President Donald Trump should serve 7 to 9 years in prison for lying to Congress, a "direct and brazen attack on the rule of law." After Trump and the DOJ criticized the recommendation, the agency told a judge Tuesday that would be too harsh. Ref. USAToday.
Trump ally Roger Stone is sentenced to 40 months in prison, less than what prosecutors originally recommended before the DOJ backtracked.
The sentence is likely to fuel criticism of unfair leniency for President Trump’s longtime friend. Stone was convicted of lying to the House Intelligence Committee and obstructing its investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential race. Ref. USAToday.
Not as bad as he would have gotten but that is still a very long time. The president can always commute time as well so he does not serve any time at all. I bet that is what will happen.
